Markha Valley Trek

After the initial period of acclimatisation to high altitude in Leh you will set out to explore the heartland of the central Ladakh Valley. It involves crossing of the three passes – Stok La/ 4848m, Kagmaru La/ 5274m, Gandla/ 4878m and walking on the banks of the Markha River. The highlight of the trip is the camping at the base of the Kang-Yutze peak on the plains of Nimaling.

Itinerary:
Day 01: Delhi - Leh. Overnight hotel.
Day 02: Full day sight seeing of Leh town and surrounding areas in 4 X 4 vehicle. Overnight hotel.
Day 03: Enjoy River rafting from Phey to Nimu followed by packed lunch. Tentage accommodation is set up on the banks of River Indus in a scenic setting.
Day 04: Drive to Alchi Monastery & Lamayuru Monastery. Drive along the river Indus to Leh town. Overnight hotel.
Day 05: At leisure in Leh. OPTION to stay in local house. Religious talks by Lama can be included in the itinerary if requested in advance and at an extra cost.
Day 06: Leh To Kilchay (4116m) - O/NT at Kilchay.
Day 07: Kilchay to Yurutse (3844m/Appx 08 Hrs)- O/NT camp at Yurutse.
Day 08: Yurutse to Skiu - (3300m/ appx 07 Hrs) - Visit the Gompa on top of the cliff on western side of the village.
Day 09: Skiu to Thinlespa (3536m/ Appx 06 Hrs) The trail to the Markha River is not too strenuous, for the initial part- then you walk through the thorny scrubs. Overnight in the Thinlespa.
Day 10: Thinlespa to Hankar (3963m/ Appx 6 to 7 hours). Overnight camp in Hankar.
Day 11: Hankar to Nimaling (4878m/ 8 hours App) - Overnight camp at Nimaling.
Day 12: Nimaling to Sumdo (5274m/ 6 hours app.) - Overnight camp at the confluence of the Shang River and the Martselang stream.
Day 13: Sumdo to Martselang (3400m/ 3 to 4 hours app) - Today is easy. At the end of a tiring but exhilarating 8 days, hot lunch will be served before setting off for Leh town in waiting vehicles. The drive into Leh will be appx. 2 hours long.
Day 14 : Early morning drive to Leh Airport for flight to Delhi. Evening at leisure in Delhi. Night Flight for journey home.
